Here's My Woodturning Stuff!

by Bill Akins
Lithia Springs, GA

Just a few years ago my father watched a guy at a craft show turn a bowl. He had me research it and long story short, we both bought a lathe and have been turning ever since.

I started with a cheap eBay lathe and soon wore it out. I moved up to a Delta midi lathe and absolutely love this machine.

I have turned a lot of pens recently. Here are a few of my favorite pictures: cherry, apple, natural edge oak and walnut bowls. Also included is a picture of some of the pens I made as gifts last Christmas, as well as a shot of me turning a bowl from dogwood.

Most of this wood was cut from my father’s land in the North Georgia mountains, or from relatives' yards. My hometown has one of those old courthouses in the center. They had to remove a large Bradford pear tree and my father claimed some of the wood. I am currently working on several pens from this and also a bowl to display in the courthouse museum.

Although I really enjoy making all kinds of wood working projects, wood turning is my true love.
